Artist CV
My artistic practice explores how self-reflexive eroticism and sexual exploration through art can be a gesture of feminine empowerment and notes the faculty of bodily decadence. I am a young, queer, multi-disciplinary artist based in Melbourne/Naarm working across mediums of painting, drawing, sculpture and video performance.
My work interrogates the complexities of sex, sexuality, identity and pleasure by prescribing a 'normalising' to these notions. Through presenting my work in the context of art, I am in turn assigning value and cultural significance to the themes within my practice.
Drawing inspiration from the female nude in Western art history, I situate my art through a lens that opposes and emancipates my work from a hetro-patriarchal Male Gaze. I consider my practice sitting somewhere between a Female and Queer Gaze, that allows me to create a space for autonomy, identity and desirability to flourish and be uninhibited.
My work intends to exemplify a sense of exploration, comfortability and empowerment of feminine sexuality and desires.
